Organizing Committee Member, Hojan Science Forum 2025 — University of Ottawa, Ottawa, ON (August 2025)

I helped plan and coordinate the inaugural Hojan Science Forum, a global platform for Kurdish science communication and DEI in science. I organized scientific talks, panels, and workshops, supporting smooth delivery across the four day event attended by researchers, scholars, and students worldwide. I facilitated networking sessions and mentorship opportunities to support young researchers and encourage interdisciplinary collaboration. I also worked with international partners, sponsors, and institutions to advance the forum’s mission within the Kurdish community and beyond.

2024 – Present

Data Analyst

I retrieve and prepare data using SQL for analysis, and I develop and test machine learning models such as decision trees and random forests. I also write reports and summarize findings to inform decision making.

2021-2023

Teaching Assistant

I taught a variety of courses at Western University that span foundational to advanced topics in health and occupational therapy. In OT 9691: Occupation-Based Inquiry Part II, I guide graduate students in turning real-world practice questions into rigorous, answerable projects. In OT 9641: Occupational Analysis & Engagement—Environment and Occupation, I help students apply person–environment–occupation concepts to analyze tasks and environments. In APPLHSCI 9008: Health and Well-Being in Children and Youth, I connect evidence to practice through seminars on developmental considerations and community contexts. In HS 1001a: Personal Determinants of Health, I introduce first-year students to how lifestyle, behavior, and context shape health, building critical thinking and study skills from the ground up.

2021-2023

Research Assistant

Western University, London, Ontario

I investigated fall related injuries in older adults, building and comparing machine learning models, starting with decision trees and moving to random forests, to uncover patterns that could improve prevention. I designed and refined study protocols, cleaned and analyzed datasets in R, SAS, and Excel, and translated the outputs into clear insights. I turned results into manuscripts, technical reports, and conference talks, contributing to peer-reviewed publications. Along the way, I worked with an interdisciplinary team, supervised junior researchers, and mentored students on research design, coding workflows, and interpretation. I also reviewed and synthesized literature to support grant proposals and shape new lines of inquiry.

2020-2021

Research Analyst

University of Toronto, Toronto, Ontario

I collaborated on a research project that applied data analytics to predicting injuries in patients with multiple sclerosis. I used machine learning models to analyze health data, ensuring methodological accuracy and reliability. I also co-authored a journal paper published in Multiple Sclerosis and Related Disorders.
